Energy Use

Easy on the Environment

There are many easy ways to save energy while saving money too.
Here are some easy ways to get started:
  • Try the ENERGY STAR Home Upgrade --  a carefully crafted set of six high-impact, energy efficiency improvements for your home. Designed to work together to deliver significant energy and cost savings, these upgrades can also help you transition from fossil fuels for a cleaner, healthier and more comfortable home:  Click HERE for upgrade.
  • Replace five of your most used bulbs with energy efficient bulbs and you can save $75 a year.  For a comparison of CFL and LED bulbs, as well as CFL clean up/disposal, click HERE. Note that consumers are encouraged to clean up and dispose of CFL and LED bulbs with care.  Some stores that participate in recycling both bulbs are ACE Hardware, Home Depot and IKEA.
  • Wash clothes in warm or cold water, not hot and save $20 a year.
  • Air dry your clothes for 6 months during the warmer months and save $45 a year.
  • If you're in the market for a new car, buy electric if you can. The transportation sector is the largest source of emissions. Many options exist. Click HERE to read a recent article.
  • If you're buying a gas powered car, buy one that gets 3 mpg more than your old one and save $150 a year.
